Soap Making can Be Done by Everyone
Are tired of doing the usual ways to let out your creative side such as paintings or drawings? Then you should try another method which is not very famous but will also be a good way to express your creativity. This hobby is soap making. It will be similar to making sculptures but it is very practical and it will really stimulate your mind as to how you will put your ideas into action.
The first thing you need to know is how to make the most basic soap. Without this, you won't have anything to design. You can choose to make your own soap using oil and lye, or you may opt to use ready-made glycerin soap which you will only melt and will be ready to be designed.
Making your own soap definitely has its advantages even though it will take longer to make. You will be able to control the intrinsic properties of your soap by altering the type and amounts of oil that you put into the soap mixture. You may make harder soaps that are better for sculpting, or milder soaps if you plan to use in on your body. Glycerin soap on the other hand, will be a lot easier especially if you want to focus on designing your soap only.
On the other hand, making your own soap is rather dangerous as you will need to handle lye. This is dangerous as lye is a very caustic substance. It can cause burns when it comes in contact with your skin. It can also irritate your lungs when you accidentally inhale the fumes. For children, it is better to use glycerin soap and avoid any accidents when making soap.
Once you have decided on what soap you are going to use, you may now move on to designing your soap. At first, you will need to start with the basic techniques so as to help you get accustomed to designing your soap. Make use of coloring dyes, molds and knives to give shape and color to your soap.
You may try different ways of designing your soap. You may try making well known structures such as the statue of liberty in making your soap, although this would require a very high level of skill. You may also choose to do simpler designs such as animals and food items. You may also combine smaller soaps to come up with a better overall design.
Due to the ease of soap making, even small children can take this up as a hobby. But due to the dangers involved in handling lye, it is recommended that children use glycerin soap as this will only need to be melted and soap designing can already be done. Children will definitely enjoy designing their soap and using them afterwards in the shower.
People of all ages can take up soap making as a hobby as it is really a very fun hobby to do. It will help stimulate your mind and think of new and creative ways to come up with designs and putting them into action. You may even opt to use your soaps in the bathroom when showering, or use them as decorations especially if came up with an excellent design.
